experience. Our August 2018 feature is Kate Denton.
Kate Denton is the owner and director of Amsa Yoga, a yoga studio located a few miles
from downtown Columbia. Amsa means "a part of."
This studio welcomes everyone from beginners through advanced students in effort that each and every person who practices at Amsa Yoga feels like "a part of" such a special space. The mission of the studio is “to compassionately guide all students toward enhanced well-being in a
soothing, light-hearted, non-competitive environment."
Amsa Yoga is dedicated to offering quality Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Restorative Yoga providing opportunity to best support every need through the week. Kate specifically teaches Yin &
Flow yoga: a unique blend of styles of yoga that offers opportunity to self-inquire about
where individual balance is needed, and then gives you a practice to shift how you as the
practitioner need to. Compassion and authenticity radiate throughout the studio
allowing mindfulness to be weaved into the physical movement for a more full, complete
practice.
Kate believes the power of yoga influences all aspects of life. Her personal mission is to
share yoga in an approachable and compassionate way that encourages students to take
ownership of their own practice, and that allows room for self-inquiry.
Being a very soon-to-be mommy to her first child, Kate strives to enter motherhood with the practice
and teachings of yoga as her guide on her personal journey. Kate has completed both her
230-hour Yoga Teacher Training and 300-hour Advanced Yoga Studies certification with a wide range of training in Vinyasa, Yin, Ashtanga, Restorative, Prenatal, Meditation, and Therapeutics. Being both a student and practitioner of yoga has allowed Kate to make shifts, improvements, and discoveries that have led her to make positive and powerful changes.
Q&A with Our Fit Feature:
What is a favorite hobby of yours?
One of my favorite hobbies is music. I deeply love music, which tends to show in the
thoughtful playlists that accompany the classes I teach. I have a record player, hundreds
of records, and love visiting record shops wherever I travel to search for vinyl.
What is your favorite food?
Since I've been pregnant, it has been watermelon!
What is a favorite quote of yours?
I love the Zen Proverb: "Is what I'm about to say kind, true, necessary? Does it improve
the silence?" What a profound way to view the importance of the way we interact with
ourselves, beloveds, and strangers alike.
